Awesome Movie, Semester End
So, went to see Avatar last night. What a fantastic thrill ride... I don't think I've enjoyed a movie (overall, but mostly conceptually/VISUALLY) this much since Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, was in theaters. The world and creature/culture development was RICH and intriguing. I felt lost in the movie, in the world of Pandora... in the creatures, the environment and the rich characters/designs. God, there's just nothing more enjoyable then mechs, dragons, marines and awesome tribal aliens all bunched up with a beautiful score, outstanding graphics and a (predictable) but heart wrenching story. In other words, I freaking LOVED it and rate it, by far the best movie of the year in my book. Here's my favorite two compositions from the movie (well, I like most of the tracks, but..) These are youtube links, so I apologize if they disappear. Avatar - Track 7 - Jakes First FightAvatar - Track 5 - Becoming One Of The People, Becoming One With NeytiriIn other news, this ho-hum semester has ended. AND, although I have not reached the honor student status at this university, I've realized as of late, that obsessive study and practice in anthropology in the junior/senior undergrad level is tedious and useless. This considering that most that STAY in anthropology as grad students often disregard about 50% of their undergrad studies as a whole, since anthropology has a million different field studies and categories. (Which you must then focus on as a grad student... which entirely makes undergrad student work miserable since we are required to learn and overall concept, while grad students have a focus group... blah blah blah) As for more recent, doings... I moved my necessities out of my dorm for the winter break and hightailed it to the high country to stay with my folks until Christmas on Thursday. Today I made it back to my stomping grounds from last year, Beaver Creek (ski resort for those not familiar)... we made quite a few runs and it was relaxing. Afterwords we stopped at Walmart to make a donation to Toys for Tots (I got a deluxe lightsaber, had to, duh), the box there was full and it made my heart warm... After a fancy dinner out tonight, I'm enjoying sitting next to the fire, watching movies on the rent's new 55 in. LCD... Tomorrow I start back work in the retail hell that is Costco. I'll be working up till Christmas eve, but at least it's money. |

Writer's Block: James Cameron’s AVATAR
I'm absolutely fascinated with the quality of the character's emotional expressions and the step up from "other" CG movies. I anticipate more believable aliens, which excites me! Okay, I usually don't do these writers block thing, but Avatar looks to be worth it... going to see it at 7:30 tonight. Excited. |

Writer's Block: Starting from Scratch
Not much. Humans suck (and I would know since my life is surrounded around studying them...) Anyways, super excited to see Avatar tomorrow. The animation and tech behind the creation of it, looks to be astounding. |

Hooray for Home Warranties!
Verdict on water heater is that we will need a new one. I took the afternoon off work and came home to wait for the plumber. He checked it out briefly. Yep, it's a leak in the tank and there is no way for them to fix that. The whole unit needs to be replaced. Luckily, I had called the home warranty company first and was doing all of this through them. So! A new unit should only cost us our deductible of $100! I'm pretty excited about that. I did have to pay $49 for the guy to assess the problem, which I thought should've been covered under the warranty but WHATEVER. Nearly anything is better than paying for a new water heater to be installed. I was hoping that everything could've been taken care of today, but the warranty company took their time getting back to the plumber. So, it most likely won't get installed until tomorrow sometime. Hopefully it will be okay if my Dad is the one that's here instead of myself or Stephen. I can't really be gone tomorrow too. I'll just leave the check with Dad. Hooray for home warranties! If you ever buy a house, make sure you get one! |

Looking at Interlaken pix with A-Day (1123) Dream: YC and I went to New York. While she was off at an
interview or a conference or something, I ended up driving through
some tunnels into a metro station, where I was walking through lines
of people to try and catch a train. The whole parking ramp and
station were built as if underground, but had windows that you could
see out over a lake from. I had to go to the bathroom. There was a
sign pointing through a neon-lit tunnel over the tracks, and I
followed it, but I didn't see a men's room at the end. Someone told
me, "look for the golden shield", and I realized that here, men's
rooms were marked with square yellow signs - I didn't recognise it,
having expected blue.
Other dream: Uhm. I think I mentioned it to someone. Fill in later if I
remember.
Yesterday (actually the day before if you take 'today' to mean
Wednesday) I biked to work through a lot of slush and then found my keys
missing. They had come off the clip somehow somewhere between my
house and work. I backtracked 4 miles and found them in a pile of
snow on the curb of John Nolen Drive. This made me very happy. I was
not wearing gloves, because it was not that cold (hence the slush).
But today, biking home, my legs were getting frosty even through my
double pants.
When I came home I found bunny tracks along the bottom
of the curving snow canyon I had shoveled up my driveway. It was cute.
Just organized some pix. Gotta do some X-mas shopping this
weekend. And staaaaaauuuffff. Now I really need to get to bed. |

Locked tree cat (1122) I dreamt last night that there was a stop sign in the middle of
Gilbert (right by the tennis court) where in real life there is only a
regular crosswalk. As the dream went on, the sign became a small
island, and a larger one, and eventually there was a tree on it. Back
at home I was looking through Christmas presents people had given me
(in the dream Christmas had already passed, even though real life
Christmas is half a month in the future). One of my presents was a
puzzle box from my mom. Inside I found a key that I hadn't noticed
before. Aha! I bet this key unlocks the tree, I thought,
because the tree had a small locked door in the trunk.
I went back to the road island with the tree, and sure enough, the
key opened the door. A cat sprang out and tried to bite my nose, but
I caught him by the arms and held him down to the ground so he
couldn't. While I was doing this he told me, telepathically, that all
life forms have a good side and an evil side, and that I couldn't
count on everyone being nice to me all the time, not even my closest
friends.
I also had a dream that Jen was going on a tirade about what a jerk
Scott was. At first I thought she meant Scott Rouse, but it turned
out she was talking about a different Scott that I didn't know. |

This is what you might call "Adventure biking"* (1121) Ride onto an ice patch and flip onto your head!
Run over camouflauged (since everything's white) bumps and fly into
parked cars!
Get snowblowed in the face!
Get marooned at work and have to spend the night in you office!**
Anything could happen!
Here's some pretty pictures:
I played the first couple levels of the Knucles version of Sonic
the Hedgehog 2 for the first time in years. Getting chaos emeralds is
a lot easier without Tails constantly bashing himself into things.
* Due to the prompness with which Madison gets its bike paths
plowed, having an adventure requires at least part of your route to be
off the bike path.
** Actually I planned for this, but I felt that it helped fill
out the list. |

Home Warranty
We noticed our water heater was leaking a lil bit underneath it last night. So I decided that I would call the Home Warranty company today and see about getting it fixed. There has been no issue with getting hot water, thankfully, but I don't want to chance something going wrong with it. Hot water is a necessity. So, I just tried to call their supposed 24 hr service line. Yeah, I was on hold for like 10 minutes and ended up giving up because Stephen tried to call in the middle of it. I'll try again in a little bit, however, I noted that the company is based in Lincolnshire, IL which probably got all the snow today too. 24hr means 24hr, though, I mean what if our furnace went out(god forbid). They may be working with a smaller staff or something *shrug* who knows. While reviewing our Home Warranty contract last night, I noticed that our trash compactor (which has been acting weird, it might just be clogged) and doorbells are covered too. xD The doorbell to our side door hasn't worked since we moved in. It's really not a huge deal, but we spend most of our time in the living room and you can't hear a knock from the side door in there. The side door is the closest door to the driveway ie it's the first door everyone goes to, so it would be nice to get that taken care of. Although, now that I think about it the doorbell isn't something that is likely to cost over $100 to fix(which is our deductible, but we pay whichever costs less service or deductible) and both of our Dads mentioned that they could probably fix it for us unless it's an electrical issue. In other news, we had a giant snowstorm/blizzard last night and today. Lots and lots of snow...gotta be 8-12 inches I'm sure. The trees look really pretty outside. ^_^ Poor Stephen had to shovel the driveway this morning by himself so he could get to work. I felt horrible that I couldn't help *sigh*. This afternoon, Dad called and offered to bring over his snowblower to finish the driveway and do the sidewalks. So, now it all looks good. We will probably be getting our own snowblower at some point. |
